so sunday, I officially quit my job at Orca Enterprises. They would not let me out of the office so I told them I was leaving. End of story. So yesterday, I started my new job as an Alaska Travel Adventures kayak guide! They hired me over the phone and before I even turned in al my paperwork, I was out on the water as a co-guide on my first trip. the group was nice and the other guide on the water with me is a native alaskan. So he tells stories of his life in Alaska and all the crazy things that they do up here and tells nothing about the surrounding area or of the islands we are kayaking around. I figure to each his own I guess. Three hours later a new trip comes and I was to lead a group of 12 people around the Gastineau Channel. Its not like I haven't kayaked before, but I have definitely never led a group around. And lets just say this group didnt really want a tour, they just wanted to go wherever. So by the time we had to go back in, my group was spread around the channel, not even shouting distance away from me. Some of them were interested in what I had to say, some just wanted a splash fight, and some were there to enjoy the scenery with no one else in the way. Needless to say, I made 0 tips on that trip but I did get asked what my myspace page was...
Yeah so this is my new job, I work from noon to 7:30, go out on 2 kayaking trips and chill out with the other kayak guides who are all ages 20-30...not a bad life. Why didn't i decide to do this earlier??
